Compression
Various techniques for compressing an image.
H.264. View
H.264 does compression across multiple still images.
H.264 compression is more efficient than M-JPEG, but increases lag time, a key issue for drones.
M-JPEG. View
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) is the video version of JPEG. It compresses an 8x8 block of pixels using cosine transofrms.
Display Stream Compression. View
This VESA standard operates on a single raster of video, meaning it imposes minimal delay. It is indistinguishable to humans from the original image.
There are a list of patents which may apply to it. The link is to the VESA starndard. You want to skip the boiler plate, and jump to chapter 3 to read the meat of the matter.
Median Adaptive Predictor. View
Here is a good introduction to Median Adaptive Predictor for image compression.
It is used in Display Stream Compression.
